The South Fork of the Yuba River sees quite a bit of nude use. As you begin your hike from the parking lot, you're likely to see many textile visitors on both sides of the river. However, as you approach the end of Buttermilk Bend Trail (which is marked by a "Trail End" sign), you'll reach the area where nudity is customary. There may be up to a few dozen nudists on this part of the river on summer weekends; some of them camp in the area. On weekdays, you may have the place to yourself.

The Yuba is very beautiful and has an abundance of large rocks that are perfect for sunning. There are several calm areas of the river, and the water is warm enough for swimming in summer, but pick your swimming spot carefully since the rapids are dangerous. There are no facilities or services except for portable toilets near the parking lot, so bring everything you need and plan to pack out your garbage.
