Plage de la Lagune is located a few kilometers south of Dune du Pilat (alternately spelled "Pyla"), which is the largest sand dune in Europe, stretching 2.7 kilometers and rising as high as 100 meters. The south end of Plage de la Lagune is zoned for naturism, and the south end of the naturist zone is a popular gay beach.
