The coastal town of Torquay is located about 100 kilometers southwest of Melbourne and about 20 kilometers south of Geelong. The stretch of beach that begins on the east end of Torquay and extends eastward to the mouth of Thompson Creek is called Point Impossible Beach. Part of Point Impossible is designated as clothing optional, a status it attained in 1983. It is Victoria's oldest legal nude beach.

The designated nude area is about one kilometer long, roughly indicated by the area shaded in red. Access is easy. From the parking lot, a short path of about 100 meters through the dunes leads directly to the nude beach. Facing the water at the end of the path, the nude area extends about 300-400 meters to your right and about 600-700 meters to your left. Posted regulations stipulate that nudity is allowed only on the beach and just offshore, but not in the dunes. There are no amenities on the beach. Point Impossible is a very popular beach, but there is ample space for crowds to spread out.

From Point Impossible Beach, it is a 20-minute drive to Southside Beach, another legally designated nude beach on the other end of Torquay. Of the two beaches, Point Impossible is far more popular, and access is much quicker from the nearest parking.
