NOTES  Strandbad Lörick is a sprawling recreation complex in Lörick, a borough of Düsseldorf that is about 5 kilometers northwest of the city center, on the opposite bank of the Rhine from the city center. The complex includes swimming pools and a long, grassy "beach" area (really more of a lawn) along a backwater of the Rhine. The pools, at coordinates 51.2487, 6.7407 (Map It), are at the southeast end of the complex. About 700 meters away, there is a small marina at the northwest end of the complex. The grassy sunbathing lawn is between the pools and the marina, and the far end of the lawn (next to the marina) is designated as FKK. There is no nude swimming even though the FKK area is near the water.

The main entrance pavilion, prominently signed "SonnenDeck," is located at coordinates 51.2501, 6.7330 (Map It). After passing through this entrance, go to the left (i.e., not toward the pools) and you'll reach the FKK area in about 200 meters.

Stadtbahn ("light rail") station Löricker Strasse (lines U74 and U76), at coordinates 51.2423,6.7218 (Map It), is 1.6 kilometers from the SonnenDeck entrance. To shorten this walk, you can board bus 833 (toward Belsenplatz) and get off at the designated stop for Strandbad Lörick, which is at 51.2479, 6.7318 (Map It). The bus stop is about 250 meters from the SonnenDeck entrance. (Note: In most large German cities, "U" stands for Untergrundbahn, which is a subway. However, the "U" designation in Düsseldorf is for above-ground, light-rail trains.)

The yellow sunburst symbol generally indicates swimming establishments that have designated nude sunbathing areas. Note that there is NO NUDE SWIMMING at these locations. Most of these establishments are Freibäder (Freibad in the singular form), which are public outdoor swimming complexes that are open during warmer months. Freibäder in German-speaking Europe are often elaborate affairs with multiple pools, water slides, sunbathing lawns and other amenities, and there is typically a small entry fee. While you will have to wear something for swimming, at some Freibäder part of the lawn or another area like a rooftop terrace is designated for nude sunbathing, and these areas are usually marked with "FKK" signs. The FKK areas are typically shielded from view by hedges, fences or other barriers. (A very small number of Freibäder that do offer nude swimming are categorized with nude beach listings, indicated by red "N" paddle placemarks.)
