Most of these establishments are Freibäder (Freibad in the singular form), which are public outdoor swimming complexes that are open during warmer months. Freibäder in German-speaking Europe are often elaborate affairs with multiple pools, water slides, sunbathing lawns and other amenities, and there is typically a small entry fee. While you will have to wear something for swimming, at some Freibäder part of the lawn or another area like a rooftop terrace is designated for nude sunbathing, and these areas are usually marked with "FKK" signs. The FKK areas are typically shielded from view by hedges, fences or other barriers.
