Geiger Beach is located about 12 miles by car from the center of Key West. It is on Boca Chica Key, a land mass that is connected to Big Coppitt Key. (On maps, it is difficult to tell where one key ends and the other begins.) Most of Boca Chica Key is occupied by the Boca Chica Naval Air Station.
The most accessible part of Geiger Beach at the end of the access road is a little-known and lightly attended textile beach. A custom of nude bathing has evolved along the even more remote western extension of the beach, which is accessed by following the storm-damaged continuation of the access road, which is blocked to vehicular access. Most nude bathers gather in an area that is about a mile past the parking area. The legality of being naked is ambiguous, but we have never encountered a report of anti-nudity enforcement at this location, and encounters with unsuspecting textiles are very unlikely, especially if you walk the full mile to where most nude bathing takes place. Be sure to stay close to the shoreline and avoiding going inland onto the naval base property.
The nude beach draws a mixed but mostly gay crowd, and most visitors go naked. However, numbers are smaller than one might expect, and this beach remains a bit of a secret. Few of those sunning nude at Key West's handful of clothing-optional guesthouses seem to know that there is a nude beach nearby. This is most likely because you need a car to get here, and most who arrive in Key West by air do not bother to rent a car since parking in the city is limited. This is an undeveloped beach with no amenities or services, so be sure to bring drinking water. You may also want to bring bug repellent since insects are a problem here at times.
