Caspersen Beach (often misspelled with an "o" instead of an "e") is a county-owned beach just south of Venice that extends for 1.75 miles. The northern end of the beach has concessions, a boardwalk, picnic tables and restrooms with showers. Of course, everyone wears swimsuits in this area. The southern two-thirds of Caspersen has been left in its natural state, and it is along this wild expanse that you'll often encounter nude sunbathers.

Although nudity on remote parts of the beach has long been practiced, in the last decade Caspersen has gotten a lot of bad press, mainly because of what goes on in the woods behind the beach. Unfortunately, the backlash against Caspersen has extended to responsible nudists. Police visits are common, but all reports seem to indicate that arrests that have been made here are related to sexual activity. Cops will not turn a blind eye to mere nudity, but a ticket is the most likely consequence, and cops tend to focus on the goings-on closer to the beach entrance. Caspersen is a long beach, and few beachgoers venture more than a quarter mile from the parking lot. A few fishermen may be present a little south of the textile crowd. After that, the beach is virtually deserted. Anyone you encounter a mile south of the parking lot is likely to be there for buff bathing as well. With distance and discretion, a small number of nude bathers still enjoy Caspersen.
