Doe Bay is a resort on Orcas Island, which is one of the San Juan Islands—a cluster of islands located in the coastal waters between Bellingham, Washington and Victoria, British Columbia. Doe Bay is a rustic, rather primitive resort (no television, for example) that offers a variety of camping options and cabin/cottage rentals. While the resort is not clothing optional in all areas, Doe Bay has a large soaking area situated on a wooden deck and covered by a roof but otherwise exposed to the outdoors. The three tubs overlook the trees and the coastal waters; the setting is quite beautiful. Two of the tubs are filled with hot water; the third is a cold plunge. Each tub can hold about a dozen soakers, and the adjacent sauna seats 20. The soaking/sauna area is clothing optional, and most visitors seem to prefer nudity.
There is also a beach at Doe Bay, a broad sandy crescent at the end of a long bay (just south of this placemark), not far from the soaking area. While Doe Bay's website expressly says that only the soaking tubs and sauna are clothing optional, many sources have confirmed that nudity is freely tolerated on the beach as well. We can only presume that Doe Bay does not wish to call attention to its nude beach. It does not promote it and even implies that nudity is not allowed, but trip reports suggest quite the contrary.
Day use of the facilities is available. Food, camping and cabins at Doe Bay are a bit pricey (as they are everywhere else on the island). Doe Bay tends to draw an easy-going, slightly counterculture crowd.
