McCredie Hot Springs is located along Salt Creek in the Willamette National Forest, about 50 miles southeast of Eugene. Nude use of the springs is a longstanding and well-accepted tradition. The springs usually have at least small crowds of soakers since this site is easy to find and easy to access, and the springs are often very crowded on weekends. McCredie is a popular stop for long-distance truckers (some come to soak, others come to watch).

The water comes out of the north-bank springs at 120°F and the south-bank springs at 140°F and mixes with cold creek water in several rock-lined soaking pools on either bank of the creek. If you find that the north-bank springs are overcrowded, you may want to drive a bit farther and hike to the south-bank springs, which tend to be less crowded and quieter. It is probably not a good idea to wade across the creek to reach the south-bank springs, especially when water levels are high. The current is very swift. Although the springs are very close to the state highway, the slope of the land along with forest growth screens the springs from the view of passing cars.

Forest rangers freely tolerate nudity at the springs. To ensure continued good relations with the forest service, do not be nude in the parking area or in any areas visible from cars on the highway. In the mid-90's, the forest service restricted use of McCredie to daylight hours only, ending a popular custom of nighttime soaking.
