Point Wells is a short and narrow stretch of beach on Puget Sound near Edmonds, about 17 miles north of downtown Seattle. The beach is visited mostly by gay men. In the 90's, a Seattle-based naturist group attempted to better establish Point Wells as a gathering place for nudists of all persuasions, but their efforts fizzled, mainly due to access difficulties. While this site is so isolated that hassles about nudity are unlikely, visitors to this beach do risk being hassled for trespassing. The only way to reach Point Wells in by walking along a railroad right of way and crossing the tracks, both of which are illegal. Getting caught will most likely get you a warning, but a citation is also possible. Publicity surrounding a death on local rail tracks, which seems to happen once every few years, tends to renew police vigilance. However, nudists continue to visit Point Wells. There are usually at most a dozen nude sunbathers at any given time.

There are a couple of important things to remember if you visit. First, be extremely cautious around the railroad tracks. Wind can make trains difficult to hear. Second, it is very good policy to always cover up when a train passes, even if you think you are out of view. Amtrack passenger trains run along this line, and discretion goes a long way in preventing complaints about nudity.
