Jerry Johnson Hot Springs, located along Warm Springs Creek in the Bitterroot Mountains of northern Idaho, is remote in that it is in a very unpopulated area. The closest town of any size is Missoula, Montana, over an hour away. However, unlike most other hot springs in Idaho, this site is easily accessible. A one-mile walk along a broad, level trail that parallels the creek brings you to the springs. The only physically challenging part of the hike is at the very end, when you'll have to scramble down an embankment of rocks (some of them slippery due to the spring water seeping out) to get to the springs.
Nudity is very well established at these scenic springs, which are on national forest land. Rangers seem not to hassle nude soakers. Although the springs are popular, especially on weekends, there are so many pools that you should be able to find a soaking spot. The water is extremely hot coming out of the rocks in some places, but it mingles with the very chilly water of the creek to make for comfortable soaking pools. The forest service permits soaking between 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. Come prepared when you visit as there are no towns nearby. There are three primitive national forest campgrounds off US Highway 12 within a few miles of the springs.
