"Les Gravières" is a name used to describe a collection of large ponds (flooded quarries) located north of Strasbourg and the suburb of Robertsau. These ponds are located very close to the river Rhine, at the eastern edge of a large forest park called Fôret de la Robertsau. Three such ponds are located within a span of just over a kilometer, on the west side of the road that runs along the Rhine (but hidden from the road by the trees). These ponds are connected by walking paths.

The southern pond is Rohrkopf, but it is textile. The middle pond (which this placemark pinpoints) is Blauelsand, and the entire pond is officially designated for nudity. It is a hugely popular nude recreation area where practically everyone is naked. Blauelsand is surrounded by man-made sandy beaches, and it is equipped with restrooms and a snack bar. There is a very mixed crowd here that includes lots of families.

About 600 meters north of Blauelsand, you'll reach the northern of the three ponds, called Leutesheim. This is where you'll find a less developed and far less crowded but largely gay nude environment. However, nudity is not officially allowed at Leutesheim.

Swimming is forbidden at both Blauelsand and Leutesheim.
