This small beach takes its informal name from a snack bar (buvette) located nearby—"La Mama." It is within a large recreation park, but away from the main hub of the park (which is at the southwest corner of the lake). Access is free.

La Mama was officially signed for naturist use in 2007, legitimizing the tradition of nudity here. On park maps, the La Mama area is labeled "G" and "H."

This beach is just 15 kilometers from the center of Lyon, the largest city in France after Paris.
