Albany is a town that is toward the western side of the southern coast of Western Australia, about 400 kilometers southeast of Perth. Although Albany and its nearby satellite communities have a combined population of fewer than 40,000 people, that still makes Albany one of the top ten population centers in the vast and sparsely populated state of Western Australia. Whaling Cove is a beach near Albany that is only 5 kilometers from the town center as the crow flies, but the driving distance is about 20 kilometers owing to the coastal geography of the area. Whaling Cove does not face the open ocean. It is located on the Vancouver Peninsula, which is a land mass that separates Princess Royal Harbour (on the west side of the peninsula) from the main body of King George Sound (on the east side of the peninsula). Whaling Cove is a beach on the east side of the Vancouver Peninsula that faces northeast, looking out over King George Sound.
Whaling Cove is a beautiful sandy beach that is backed by a steeply sloping and thickly forested hillside. Although it is not officially clothing optional, Whaling Cove is rather lightly attended, and nudity occurs regularly. However, you are not likely to encounter more than a few other nudists, and you may need to use some discretion if only textiles are present when you visit. Facing the water at the parking lot, Whaling Cove is the beach that is to your left. Straight ahead from the parking lot, a narrow path goes downhill through the trees and lands at the far east end of the beach, which spans about 300 meters. Nudity is more likely to occur on the opposite (west) side of the beach, past the rocks that basically divide the beach into two halves. There are no amenities along the beach or in the parking lot.
