Heiliger See is an oblong lake in Potsdam, very close to Berlin. The north and west shores of the lake abut a park called Neuer Garten. The north end of the lake is the only part of the lake where swimming is permitted, and sunbathers cluster along the north shore in several small meadows formed by gaps in the trees. Heiliger See is quite popular even though there are reeds at the waterline. There are several openings in the reeds where swimmers can access to the water. Nude bathing is quite commonplace, and most nudists gather in the pinpointed meadow.
If you approach according to the directions outlined in the other placemarks, you will at first be walking next to a body of water called Jungfernsee, which is one of many lakes formed by the river Havel. After crossing the canal, you will angle toward the north end of Heiliger See. (The short canal connects Jungfernsee and Heiliger See.) The swimming area is roughly the 400-meter-long stretch defined by the canal on one end and a structure called Grünes Haus on the other end. (Grünes Haus is a large pale-green mansion with a red roof.) The FKK meadow along the lakeshore is about halfway between Grünes Haus and the canal.
Neuer Garten is the location of two palaces and other notable structures, some of which are pinpointed. Less than 500 meters from the FKK meadow, Cecilienhof is the palace that is notable as the site of the Potsdam Conference, where Truman, Churchill and Stalin met in 1945 and determined the shape of postwar Europe. Another palace, Marmorpalais (the Marble Palace), is visible across the lake from the FKK meadow.
