Nudist area at the Isteiner Schwellen The Isteiner Schwellen are located in the riverbed of the old Rhine and are a popular destination in summer. The river bubbles over small cliffs and rocks and offers a bathing paradise with natural whirlpools. Nudism is not permitted at the entrance or at the actual thresholds. On the sandbanks and further downstream in clearings on the banks of the Rhine, nude bathing is possible in the midst of a great natural backdrop. A mysterious forest with winding paths invites you to go nude hiking. There are also a few love nests in the thicket. Nude bathing with an international audience The Isteiner Schwellen attract visitors from France, Germany and Switzerland in particular. If you live in southern Alsace, southern Baden or northwestern Switzerland, you don't have far to go to the idyllic nudist bathing area. This results in a diverse crowd of different age groups. The rapids in the Upper Rhine can be roughly divided into two areas. To the south of the viewing platform you will usually find the clothed bathers and many families. The nudist area is to the north of the platform on the right-hand side. There you can sunbathe naked and enjoy the cool waters of the Rhine without any clothes on. The huge gravel bed is a wonderful place to go nudism. If you want, you can float down the river naked and walk back through the forest to your mooring in Adam or Eve costumes. Nude bathing at the thresholds is not without danger Special care should be taken directly at the thresholds, as the currents can pose a risk even for experienced swimmers. Many warning signs along the river indicate the danger. Nudists who want to float 600 to 800 meters down the old Rhine should only do so when the water level is normal or low and the current is weak. The amount of water in the river can change quickly and the forces that arise when bathing naked should not be underestimated.
