The popular Baltic Sea resort town of Warnemünde is a district of Rostock, which is the largest city in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and a major port. Warnemünde is about 13 kilometers north of the city center, on the west side of the mouth of the river Warnow, which is the entrance to the port. The name Warnemünde means "mouth of the Warnow." The broadest part of the beach near the Warnow is textile. About 1.5 kilometers west of the Warnow, the beach becomes FKK, and it is among the more popular nude beaches anywhere along the German coastline. The red line approximates the roughly 2-kilometer-long stretch of beach where most nudists gather.

Many beach access trails across the dunes are spaced out at short intervals, and these accesses are numbered, starting with "1." The numbers get higher as you go farther west (i.e, to the left when facing the sea). The access where the FKK area begins seems to have varied a bit over time, but you can expect to encounter the first nudists around access #20. This access, which is pinpointed, is located between two small hotels: Hotel Stolteraa and the Best Western Hanse Hotel. These two small hotels are located about 750 meters west of Hotel Neptun (pinpointed), which is the tallest (about 15 stories) and by far the most prominent structure in Warnemünde.

About 600 meters west of access #20, the most congested part of the nude beach is around accesses #26 and #27, and beach chairs can be rented in this area. These accesses correspond to the large parking lot that is closest to the nude beach. Continuing about 300 meters west of access #27, the geography of the beach begins to change, with low cliffs rising up behind the beach. This part of the beach is called the Stoltera (alternately spelled Stolteraa with an extra "a"). Once the Stoltera begins, the crowd begins to thin out, and the beach accesses are stairs leading from the forested clifftop trail down to the beach.

About 600 meters into the Stoltera, you'll reach a stretch of the beach that is popular with gay men, between accesses #33 and #34. Another 600 meters or so beyond the gay area, you'll reach access #37, and there is a hotel called Pension Wilhelmshöhe that is nestled in the forest above this access. The beach in the immediate vicinity of Wilhelmshöhe tends to be mostly textile. Continuing west beyond Wilhelmshöhe, nudity is still possible about as far as you'd care to walk, but the beach gets narrower and more pebbly as you go farther along, with few visitors.

The nude beach of Warnemünde is accessible by public transit from Rostock. From the Rostock main train station (Hauptbahnhof), you can take the train to Warnemünde, but get off at station Warnemünde Werft, which is the next-to-last stop, located at coordinates 54.1698, 12.0866 (Map It). From there, board either Bus 36 (direction: Warnemünde Strand) or Bus 37 (direction: Diedrichshagen). Stop Warnemünde Strand is along both lines, and this bus stop is next to parking lot "Strand Mitte," which is the eastern of the two pinpointed lots. This is the end stop of Bus 36. Bus 37 continues west, and the second stop after Warnemünde Strand is stop Rohrmannsche Koppel, next to the parking lot of the same name, which is the western of the two pinpointed lots.
