Noosa is term for a collection of towns that are located about 150 kilometers north of Brisbane, and the Noosa region is a very popular tourist area. Noosa National Park is a multi-unit park in the Noosa region, and the most popular part of the park is the roughly square-shaped unit called the Headland Section that covers a bit less than 5 square kilometers of dense forest. The west side of the Headland Section abuts the town of Noosa Heads, the south side abuts the town of Sunshine Beach, and the east and north sides abut the ocean. The collection of placemarks and colored lines for this listing more or less outline the entire area of the Headland Section.
Alexandria Bay Beach is an exceptionally beautiful sandy beach of about one kilometer in length that spans most of the eastern side of the Headland Section. Approximately the southern half of this beach is visited by nude bathers. The beach is not officially designated as clothing optional (there are no legal nude beaches anywhere in Queensland), but authorities have turned a blind eye for years, and Alexandria Bay is the most popular nude beach in Queensland. Furthermore, as the Noosa area is a major gay and lesbian travel destination, Alexandria Bay has an especially large gay following. There are no amenities on the beach, and signs in the park advise swimmers to be cautious due to the strong surf.
Alexandria Bay Beach can be approached from either its north or its south end, but either way a good bit of walking is involved, and parking is potentially a problem. The only parking lot for the Headland Section is located in the northwestern corner or the park, but this lot is often full, and if you do park there, you'll have a rather long (but easy) walk of about 3 kilometers to get to the nude area of the beach. Another option is to approach from Sunshine Beach. There is not a parking lot next to the southern edge of the park, but streetside parking is available along the neighborhood streets that are near the various access trails. You may have to drive around a bit to find an open space, and you should be aware of parking restrictions. (If there is a yellow line along the edge of the street, you can't park there.) The trails from Sunshine Beach are shorter but a bit more challenging since you'll have to go over a hill to get to the beach, but you'll arrive directly at the nude area.
