Uretiti Beach is a well-established nude beach located in a natural reserve on the eastern side of the Northland peninsula, which is the prominent land mass that extends north from Auckland. Situated along Bream Bay, which forms a long but shallow indentation in the coastline, the beach lies about 125 kilometers directly north of Auckland, and it is about 32 kilometers south of Whangeri, the closest major town. Uretiti is generally regarded as the premier nude beach in all of New Zealand, drawing crowds of a few dozen during the week and 50 or more on weekends, with upwards of 100 nudists on peak days. It is a very beautiful beach of white sand backed by dunes and pastoral hills, with views of mountainous islands in the distance.

Uretiti is accessed through a Department of Conservation (DoC) campground. While some argue that nudity is permitted anywhere on the beach, by custom nudists go south (to the right when facing the water) just a bit past the end of the campground before disrobing. During much of December and January (peak summer holiday season), only overnight campers can drive into the campground. In that case, beach visitors can park just north of the campground, which makes the walk to the nude area just a few minutes longer. During the rest of the year, the entry booth to the campground in unattended, and beach visitors can park in the campground at no charge. The campground itself is rather rustic, with restrooms and cold showers available to beach visitors. Other than that, there are no beach amenities. Note that nudity is not allowed in the campground.

To end on a rather creepy note: As you are preparing to leave the beach, carefully shake out your clothes, away from your body. You want to make sure not to come into contact with poisonous katipo spiders. Don't worry; they are not aggressive and will not attack you as you are lying naked on the beach, but they do take shelter in places like driftwood and piles of clothing and will bite if they can't escape fast enough.
