Birkensee is a small lake that is a bit less than 500 meters in length. About 15 kilometers east of the center of Nürnberg, this is the city's preeminent FKK recreation area. Nudity is practiced along the entirety of the lake. There are sandy and grassy areas for sunbathing on the north, south and east shores. The west shore has reedy areas and is not as easy to access. You can explore the entire circumference of the lake in a loop hike of 1.5 kilometers (see the green line).
