Waitata Bay Beach is a small beach of about 150 meters in length located in the tiny town of Russell, which is in a rather remote part of the Northland peninsula, about 240 kilometers north of Auckland. This picturesque beach has official signage indicating that it is a nude beach thanks to the efforts of the naturist-friendly owner of the private land that surrounds the beach. That private land includes Waitata Bay Retreat, a small farmstay uphill from the beach that advertises to naturists. Despite having ideal conditions of seclusion and tolerance, Waitata Bay is a rather obscure nude beach that rarely has more than a handful of visitors.

Waitata Bay Beach is accessed from neighboring Long Beach. There is a small toilet building at the far north end of Long Beach (to the left when facing the water). A signed trail to Waitata Bay begins near the toilets and goes over the small headland that separates the two beaches. It is a short walk of just a minute or two.
