Forstsee is a small lake in a picturesque mountain setting west of Klagenfurt. The lake lies just north of and uphill from a much larger lake called Wörthersee. Forstsee is at an elevation of about 600 meters, about 170 meters higher than the surface elevation of Wörthersee.

Forstsee has a circumference of about 2.5 kilometers, and it is completely encircled by forest. It is off the tourist radar but much loved by those in the know. Nude bathing is practiced and accepted along the entire shoreline, which has many nooks and small bays. There is a fee of about €2 to park in the lot, which is often filled to capacity. Otherwise, there is no entry fee. Despite the crowded parking lot, the lake itself is plenty large enough that crowds are always dispersed.

About 150 meters from the parking lot, you will reach the far east side of the lake. A snack stand is located in this area, near the small dam. Facing the lake, you can walk in either direction to pick your place. It takes about 45 minutes to make a complete loop. The southwestern part of the lake, all the way across from the entry point, is an especially popular gathering place for gay men.
