The town of Bowen is located about 1,200 kilometers north of Brisbane, along the part of the coastline of Queensland that faces the vast Great Barrier Reef. Cape Edgecumbe is a small peninsula just north of Bowen, and this peninsula includes several small resorts and a number of small beach coves along either side. One of these coves, at the tip of the peninsula, is visited by nude bathers.
When you pull into the pinpointed parking lot, you will be facing directly north, with the tip of the peninsula straight ahead (beyond Whitsunday Sands Resort). To get there, you'll need to go to your left, to the west side of the peninsula. You can access the beach at the rear of Coral Cove Apartments. Once you are at the beach, turn right and go north, and it is just a short walk to the nude beach, which is the last cove of the west-facing side of the peninsula. If the tide is out, you can follow the sand the whole way. Otherwise, you will have to scramble a bit over the rocks to get to the nude beach. You'll know you are there when you get to a large boulder with "Welcome to Bowens Nude Beach" and "If Nudity Offends Proceed No Further" painted on it.
The nude beach cove, which is perhaps 100 meters long, is not officially designated as clothing optional, but the prominent handmade signage on the boulder certainly provides fair warning to anyone who might wander up to the beach. However, the beach seems to be empty most of the time. This is among the more obscure of Australia's nude beaches even though it is not especially remote or difficult to access.
