Hersonissos is a town on the north coast of Crete that has a number of large resort hotels. Hersonissos is about 25 kilometers east of Iraklio (a.k.a. Heraklion). (Besides being the capital and largest town in Crete, Iraklio is also the location of the main airport as well as Knossos Palace, the most important ancient Minoan archaeological site on the island.)
Although this part of Crete does not have as many nudist opportunities as other parts of the island, nudists have established a tiny part of the east-facing beach of Hersonissos as a haven for bare bathers. This is a semi-hidden site, yet it is easily accessible by car and is also an easy walk from many of the large resort hotels in the area. The nude beach does not have a proper name but is often referenced by the name of the nearby restaurant, Saradari. Standing at this restaurant and facing the sea, to your right is a short, paved path that slopes gently to the beach. Follow this path, then turn right and walk north across the tiny beach. Just around the next bend is the nude area, which consists of a small area of beach flanked by flat rocky outcroppings that are suitable for sunbathing. The beach draws from a dozen to several dozen bathers, mostly nude, and can feel quite crowded at times since the area is small (perhaps 100 meters, roughly drawn by the red line).
