Red Beach is among the most popular nude beaches in Crete. The beach is located in Mátala, a small tourist village that was once a hippie haven. Although Mátala is on the south coast of Crete, it is along a stretch where the coast faces west. Red Beach is the next beach south of the small village beach of Mátala. Getting there requires a hike up the hillside from Mátala then down to the beach, so be prepared to expend a little energy.

Named for the color of the sand, Red Beach is a beautiful beach in a dramatic setting. Most of the time at least half the crowd is naked. On days where the beach is especially crowded with textiles, nudists may shift toward the south end of the beach, which is about 200-300 meters long. Be sure to bring your own food and drink as the taverna is now apparently closed.

Mátala can be reached by bus from Iraklio if you are without your own transportation.
