Kelly's Beach, located on the Gulf of St. Lawrence about 115 kilometers north of Moncton, lies within Kouchibouguac (Koosh-e-boo-gwack) National Park. The beach is on a narrow barrier island that stretches about 7 kilometers, connected to the parking lot on the mainland via a long boardwalk. The boardwalk takes you to the main beach (textile) near the northern end of the island. From here, it is possible to walk south for well over an hour before reaching the southern tip of the island.
As you walk south from the main beach, you may begin to encounter nude bathers after 20 minutes or so. Since the beach is so long, and because there is only one point of access (via the boardwalk), the nude area is not very well defined. Nude bathers may be spread out over a distance of several kilometers, so the beach is never crowded, and there is not a social nude beach atmosphere here. You are likely to encounter scattered nudists as far as you care to walk.
Since the nude area is such a long walk and there is ample space, hassles about nudity are unlikely. It is a good idea to cover up if you see rangers patrolling the shoreline by boat, but patrols are reported to be very rare. It may also be a good idea to cover up if bird watchers or other casual beach strollers happen to wander into the nude area. There are restrooms, showers, and a snack bar at the parking lot, but these amenities are quite a long haul from the nude beach. There is no shade on the beach, so be sure to bring sunscreen and plenty of water. Insect repellent is also a good idea.
