The distant island of Rhodes (Rodos), far from mainland Greece, is close to the coast of Turkey. The only beach on Rhodes where nudity is well established is in the resort town of Faliraki, which has a reputation for being a lively party town. Faliraki is located on the northern part of the island's eastern coast, a short distance south of Rhodes town. The nude beach is located in a cove just a few kilometers south of the center of Faliraki and does not seem to have a proper name. Locals just call it the "Nudist Beach." The nude beach is just north of Anthony Quinn Bay, a very scenic (but textile) cove that was renamed for the actor following the 1961 movie "The Guns of Navarone," part of which was filmed there.
The beach stretches a few hundred meters, and nudity is acceptable on the entire beach, including where the chairs and umbrellas are set up. The beach is equipped with showers and a taverna. Almost all visitors go nude, and the beach is quite popular, especially with German and Eastern European visitors. Peak attendance is about 200. The southern end of the beach beyond the umbrellas is mostly gay.
Although many visitors love Faliraki, this beach has drawn an atypical amount of criticism. Faliraki seems to have more than its share of gawkers (watching above from the cliffs as well as from boats) and indiscreet sexual behavior. Nonetheless, it continues to be one of the most popular nude beaches of the Greek islands.
