Guvano is a small beach located between Corniglia and Vernazza, which are two of the five village of the famous Cinque Terre region. It is located below an an exposed stretch of the costal railway, which is mostly underground in this area. This beach is popular with nude bathers, having a nudity custom that goes back to the 60's. The beach is a small crescent of dark, coarse sand and rocks, and the setting is spectacular. About half the crowd goes naked, and nude and textile users mix freely. Guvano draws quite a diversity of visitors and has a reputation for being particularly popular with counterculture types.

Guvano is particularly renowned for the very peculiar way it is accessed. To get to the beach, you have to walk through a defunct train tunnel for about 20 minutes. The tunnel is damp and dimly lit, and you can sometimes hear trains going by in the newer tunnel next to it—kind of an eerie journey. When you emerge from the end of the tunnel, you will be at the nude beach, and someone will collect an entry fee of about €5 per person. It is also possible to access the beach from a spur trail off the walking trail from Corniglia to Vernazzo.

The colorful Cinque Terre villages—Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore—consist of dense clusters of pastel structures built into the rugged mountainsides. These villages cover a span of about 10 kilometers of coastline. While they are accessible by car, parking is virtually non-existent. Almost all visitors arrive by train. Day trippers can park in nearby La Spezia (south of the villages) or Levanto (north of the villages) and take a short, inexpensive train ride to any of the five villages. Access to Guvano is quickest via Corniglia.
