Eraclea Mare is a seaside resort town that is just north of Lido di Jesolo, which is a larger seaside resort town that is separated from Eraclea Mare by the mouth of the river Piave. Just south of the development of Eraclea Mare but north of the Piave is a small seaside lagoon called Laguna del Morto, which has an opening to the sea on its north end. The 2-kilometer-long beach that is bounded by the mouth of the lagoon and the mouth of the river is disconnected from the surrounding area, which perhaps explains why it is named Isola del Morto, which means "Dead Man's Island." It isn't really an island, nor is it dead since this beach has become a haven for nude bathers. The beach is lightly attended, and most of those who make the long trek around the lagoon do so to find privacy for nudity.
