There is a long, continuous sandy beach that extends southward over 10 kilometers from San Vincenzo toward Piombino. Part of this beach, about 7 kilometers south of San Vincenzo, has been a popular nude beach since the 80's, when it was "colonized" by an Italian naturist group (Associazione Naturista Italiana, or ANITA). Authorities have tacitly accepted the nude status of the beach. The informal name of the nude beach is Nido dell'Aquila, which means "Eagle's Nest." It lies within Parco Naturale di Rimigliano. On sunny weekends there are usually flags and kites in the nude area that display the words "FKK" and "ANITA." The stretch of the beach that is visited by nudists is undeveloped, with no facilities. The accepted nude area begins about 300 meters south of the beach access at the abandoned farmhouse (pinpointed) and extends south about 700 meters.
