Playa d'Illa Roja is a small beach—about 100 meters in length—that is nestled beneath rock walls. It is an especially scenic beach, and it is also the most popular nude beach in the province of Girona. It can often feel quite crowded due to its small size. Almost all visitors here are nude.

Illa Roja is located just south of a much longer beach called Playa de Pals, separated from Pals by rock outcropping. A walkway over the outcropping provides quick and easy access from one beach to the other. Most visitors to Illa Roja access it through the southern end of Pals, and this results in a bit of name confusion. Illa Roja is often erroneously labelled as Pals, which is further complicated by the fact that Pals also has a nudist presence (but not nearly as much as Illa Roja).

Illa Roja can also be accessed from Playa de Sa Reira, a larger cove to the south. However, access from the south is convenient only if you stay in a hotel near Sa Reira. Otherwise, access from the north is better for parking.
