This beach takes its name from the Castillo de Macenas, an 18th-century stone bulwark at the south end of the beach. The beach is particularly easy to access, with parking available on the beach, which makes it popular with caravaners. A few nudists gather on the far north end of the beach, where the coastal road turns inland and the hillside secludes the beach from passing traffic. The main expanse of the beach, which is in full view of the coastal road, is across the road from a new mega golf resort that was constructed around 2009.
Playa del Sombrerico, 3 kilometers to the south, is a nearby but much more secluded option for nudists.
