Cala de San Pedro is a small beach within Parque Natural de Cabo de Gata-Níjar that sits beneath the ruins of a small castle. This beach has a loyal following despite—or perhaps because of—the long hike required to reach it. Many visitors go nude. San Pedro attracts a variety of people, and the beach has a hippie-ish, counterculture vibe. Some visitors pitch tents and camp out on the beach.
The hike along a dramatic cliff-hugging dirt road takes the better part of an hour, but the views along the way are spectacular, as are the views from the beach. Be sure to bring plenty of water and sunscreen. There is irregular water taxi service from Playa de las Negas for about €6 each way.
