Playa de Barra is the westernmost of three adjacent beaches—the others are Viñó and Nerga—which collectively span a distance of 1.7 kilometers on the north side of a large bay called Ría de Vigo. The three beaches are separated by small, rocky outcroppings. Tucked into a large cove and backed by pine and eucalyptus trees, all three are exceptionally beautiful beaches with broad expanses of sand. Nerga is a textile beach, and Viñó gets some nude use even though it is not signed as clothing optional, but the entire 700-meter span of Barra is signed as a nudist area. It is the premier nude beach of Atlantic Spain and draws a very mixed crowd. The beach is undeveloped, with no amenities or services.
Problems at this paradise involve parking and crowds. On hot summer weekends, the beach is packed to capacity with hundreds of naked bodies. Consider a weekday visit if you don't like big crowds. The beach lacks a well-defined parking lot. There is a hodgepodge of dirt and grass clearings in the wooded area behind the beach where visitors park.
