We visited Mania beach late afternoon at the beginning of October 2017. Access to the beach is easy by a paved road that ends at a small parking area immediately in front of the beach. Being in a slightly more remote and less developed part of the island, we found it completely empty so it was no problem being naked.
To the right (west) is a long stretch of soft orange red sand which shelves gently below the water line with just a few rocks. Beyond the rocks leads to Kounopetra beach where there is a taverna and a few villas which overlook the beach. These were closed up when we visited but perhaps might make that end less suitable for naturism at other times. There was a lot of seaweed on this stretch of the beach and in the sea so we headed back eastwards where there was less. Climbing over the rocks to the left of the parking area we found a further stretch of the same beautiful sand, a few more rocks, but considerably less seaweed.
The beach is backed by vertical, light coloured, clay cliffs making it secluded. The colour of the cliff dramatically contrasts with the orange red sand. Dried by the Mediterranean sun the clay dries out making it very crumbly. There are many cracks and large fissures making the cliff unstable so caution is needed.
The dry clay from the cliff can be mixed with water and painted onto the body. It is said to have beneficial properties though I found claims that it will make you look 20 years younger to be exaggerated. I tried painting one arm only and it still looks the same as the other. Perhaps I should have left it on longer 😂.
The water was lovely and warm, there were no noticeable currents and great for swimming.
