A three and a half mile long beautiful, west facing, sandy beach. We recommend parking at the car park at Crow Point which is accessible via a toll road at the southern end. In 2018 the toll was £2 which allows you to park all day and is much cheaper than the Sandy Lane car park. Whichever car park you choose expect a long walk around or across the vast dunes (Braunton Burrows) which apparently are the largest in the UK. There are no facilities so do take plenty to drink.
Although it is long established unofficial naturist beach it is only lightly attended. Can't understand why as it is an amazing location and with so much space there should be no difficulty in finding a spot well away from the textile, northern end of the beach.
When approaching Braunton Burrows from the Crow Point car park there is a sign saying "no naturist activities" but this seems to be ignored and nobody seems to object. A board walk cuts across the dunes to the beach or alternatively you can walk along the shoreline from the car park. A little longer but it is easier walking on the flat beach.
When we visited there were only a handful of people on the entire beach but that may have had something to do with it being World Cup and Wimbledon finals day. In addition to us there were two single male naturists on the beach and possibly more naturists concealed amongst the sand dunes. Textiles were slightly higher in numbers, mostly walkers but they were unperturbed by the presence of naturists.
There is a huge tidal range on this beach and the tide goes out a long way so perhaps not so convenient for skinny dipping at low tide. The tide runs swiftly through the Taw and Torridge estuary at the southern end so do be aware of strong currents towards that end of the beach.
