Ilha de Faro is a barrier island about 8 kilometers long. The eastern half of the island near Faro's airport is a 4-kilometer span of beach houses. This part of the beach is connected to the mainland by an automobile bridge and is known as Praia da Ilha de Faro, or often just Praia de Faro. If you walk 2 kilometers west beyond the last of the beach houses, you'll reach Praia da Quinta do Lago, which is the beach of the Quinta do Lago golf resort community. This beach is connected to the mainland by a pedestrian bridge.

This pinpointed area, about halfway along the two-kilometer undeveloped stretch between the two textile beaches, is frequented by nude bathers. It is attended mainly by gay men and has more of a reputation as a gay beach than as a nude beach.

The nude area can be accessed from either end, but a parking fee is required if you approach via Quinta do Lago. Either way, plan on a walk of 1.5 to 2 kilometers.
