Praia de Odeceixe is a large beach at the mouth of the river Seixe. The name "Odeceixe" often collectively refers to the broad beach at the river mouth as well as the narrower adjacent coves immediately south, but the cove immediately south of the broadest part of the beach—where this placemark is pinpointed—is also known as Praia das Adegas. The main body of Odeceixe is textile, while Adegas is nudist. It has been officially designated as such since 2004.
Adegas is a popular and easily accessible beach that is just south of the Algarve / Alentejo border. It is the best attended of the Algarve's west-facing nude beaches. The main body of Adegas is a bit less than 200 meters long and is separated from the main part of Odeceixe by a rock outcropping that is easily skirted except at high tide. However, the nude beach is directly accessible via a long wooden staircase. A more formidable rock outcropping at the south end of Adegas separates it from a collection of hidden coves. These coves can be reached at sea level at low tide. You can also access these coves from above by carefully negotiating your way down the rocks.
A small tourist "train" (i.e., the kind that doesn't run on tracks) shuttles passengers back and forth between Odeceixe town and Praia de Odeceixe village during peak season.
