Just 35 kilometers south of Lisbon, Praia do Meco is generally regarded as Portugal's premier nude beach. Nudity has been officially permitted since 1995. The nude area begins approximately where this placemark is pinpointed, a bit south of the rows of beach umbrellas and a unique sand dune "island" in the middle of the beach. The nude area extends south about 2 kilometers, almost to the next beach access at Praia das Bicas.

Meco is a broad, sandy beach backed by low sandstone cliffs. Although quite popular, there is ample room to spread out. The southern half of the beach tends to be heavily gay. The nude beach can be accessed from either end, but most visitors enter from the north. There is a beach bar at the textile area to the north, and there are two restaurants at Praia das Bicas to the south.
