Nudity is customary on the beach east of Downderry, with the farther eastern reaches of the beach being well-known as a gay beach. Access difficulties provide a measure of protection for naturists. At low tide, access is no problem. However, at high tide most of the sand is submerged and the beach becomes a series of tiny coves, and you could become trapped in one of these coves. While there is escape by climbing the steep hillside up to the coastal trail that runs above the beach, this is a challenge only for the physically fit. Plan to exit the beach about three hours before high tide. Check the tide chart in a local paper or online at a website like this one. (Look up nearby Devonport/Plymouth.)
