Studland Beach is the most famous and popular nude beach in Britain. The beach is located on a peninsula just south of the mouth of Poole Harbour, and it is just a bit south of the Sandbanks ferry crossing in Poole. (The driving directions we give avoid the ferry, but taking the ferry is an alternative.) The beach is officially designated for naturist use, and prominent signs clearly delineate the naturist area from all directions. The nude zone extends just under half a mile and is often quite crowded. Nudity is allowed on the beach only, not in the dunes. Park wardens patrol regularly on bicycle and may impose penalties for nudity outside the signposted area and for lewd behavior.
The red line roughly delineates the length of the nude area. The trail coming in from Ferry Road (see the green line) is a bit of a demarcation line. The south end of the beach is visited mostly by straight couples, and the far south end closest to the Knowles beach parking lot is regarded as the most family friendly part of the beach. The north end of the beach is heavily gay. There is a mobile vendor on the beach selling drinks and snacks. The people you see wading naked through the water with money in hand toward a boat that comes around every so often are buying ice cream.
Be advised that parking fills up quickly, and regardless of whether you approach via the ferry or via Corfe Castle, the roads in the area are often jammed. If you are seeking solitude without traffic delays, Studland is not the best choice, especially on weekends.
