The approximately 9-mile stretch of coast between Seaford and Eastbourne is the location of the Seven Sisters, a series of dramatic, sheer, chalky cliffs. Birling Gap Beach is located roughly in the middle of the Seven Sisters area. Birling Gap itself is a seaside hamlet now owned by the National Trust, consisting of little more than a hotel and café. A staircase at the end of the parking lot in Birling Gap is the only access to the beach. On the beach, turn right and walk west about 500 yards to reach the start of the traditional nude area. Nudity is possible for quite a distance since the next beach access is over 2 miles away at the mouth of the River Cuckmere. Most nudists stay within a mile of Birling Gap. Although this rocky beach is very easy to find and reach, and although the location is very scenic, attendance is light, so don't expect to encounter more than a handful of other nudists. Be sure not to stay too close to the cliffs due to the possibility of falling rocks.
