Fairlight Cove is located a bit east of Hastings within a large park called Hastings Country Park. It was made an official nude beach in the late 70's. However, attendance peaked in the 80's and 90's and has diminished substantially in the 2000's due to access difficulties, although a good number of nudists continue to visit the beach. This beach has a serious erosion problem, and the cliffs are unstable. The wooden staircase that once provided access from the clifftop to the beach completely washed away in the early 00's. Authorities seem to have decided against restoring this access and have erected several signs near where the stairs used to be warning of "dangerous cliffs" and "no access." The signs, which clearly try to discourage people from going down the cliff, state that access is dangerous but stop short of saying that access is outright prohibited. In fact, access is not dangerous because loyal beach users have taken it upon themselves to improve the descent. The users have built a series of long earthen steps stabilized with wooden planks. These steps are located in the same area where the staircase used to be (approximately where the pink line is drawn). Of course, keep in mind that continued erosion or a big storm could alter the safety of this approach.

You will arrive on the beach at its west end. Nudists used to walk left (east) a bit before disrobing, but the beach is now so sparsely attended by textiles that you may encounter nudity right away. Depending on the tide, it is possible to walk east for a mile or more. Although attendance used to number in the hundreds, crowds of 50 or fewer are more common these days.
