Shellness Beach takes it name from the adjacent hamlet of Shellness. A 250-yard stretch of this beach, roughly indicated by the red line, is officially designated for naturist use. The naturist zone is clearly signed at both ends, with small buffer zones between the row of beach cottages to the north and the hamlet to the south. The beach is well attended considering its small size. Although there may be crowds of up to 100 on peak weekends, crowds of a few dozen are more typical. The beach is often windy, so may visitors bring windbreaks or seek shelter in the dunes on windy days. Some visitors pitch tents and camp on the beach.
