Ross Back Sands is arguably the northernmost nude beach in England—"arguably" because nudist attendance is so low that it straddles the line of "established nude beach" and "potential nude beach." The beach extends over two miles and is quite beautiful, with a large area of sand and extensive dunes. However, the beach is tucked away in a rather remote and relatively unpopulated part of England. Furthermore, a walk of one mile is required to reach the beach from the only access point at Ross, and there is no parking to accommodate substantial crowds. Therefore, this beach remains an undiscovered jewel. On warm days there may just a dozen or so textiles on the beach, and they tend to stay close to the end of the access trail. Go away from the access trail and you are likely to have vast expanses to yourself. Most visitors who want to strip seem to go north. Even on the warmest weekends, there will likely be at most half a dozen bare bathers dispersed on the beach (and warm in this part of England is about 70°F, or 21°C). Despite the low attendance, this beach has views of historic landmarks in both directions. Look south and you will see expansive Barburgh Castle is the distance. Look north and you will see Lindisfarne (a.k.a. Holy Island), which is also the location of a prominent castle.
