Roanhead refers to a peninsula of sorts extending into the Duddon Estuary. It appears as a bump in the coastline on maps. The pinpointed parking lot is located at one extreme of Roanhead. Starting at the parking lot, the beach of Roanhead extends west before curving southward to a cluster of dwellings (pinpointed by the blue flag placemark) at the southern extreme. The total length of the beach is about 2.25 miles, and most of it is likely to be deserted. From the parking lot, walk west on the beach (left when facing the water) until you are well beyond any textiles. Half a mile should suffice. After that, nudity is generally considered acceptable about as far as you'd care to walk, but if you decide to take long walk, be sure to leave a buffer zone at the end of the beach near the previously mentioned dwellings (which are accessed, incidentally, by a track that runs along the bay at the south end of Roanhead, thereby not crossing paths with nudists). Don't expect to see more than a smattering of visitors, nude or otherwise.
The north-facing part of the beach has beautiful views of the hills in the distance, across the Duddon Estuary. If you walk far enough, beyond the curvature of the land, you can look south to see the northern tip of Walney Island, which also gets some nudists attendance. The Roanhead and Walney Island beaches are just 1/4 mile apart at the mouth of Walney Channel. By car, the beaches are 8 miles apart.
