Smith Point County Park is on the eastern end of Fire Island, south of the town of Shirley. The nude beach associated with Smith Point is actually not within the county park, but rather to the west of the park boundary on national seashore land. Rangers freely tolerate nudity within the accepted nude area, even though there are no signs announcing nude use like at nearby Lighthouse Beach. The beach is wild, beautiful and clean.

Although warm days may draw hundreds of nude bathers, there is so much room here that the beach doesn't feel crowded even on peak days. There are restrooms, showers and a concession stand at the textile beach at the county park. You'll have to pay to park in the county park lot, and the fee is about $10.
