The far north of Minnesota is not the most likely place for a nude beach, but there is a skinnydipping site on the Lester River in Lester Park, about 8 miles northeast of downtown Duluth and a mile or so upstream from the mouth of the river at Lake Superior. Lester River is actually a shallow creek that cascades through a rock bed, forming a multitude of mini-waterfalls as it flows through Lester Park toward Lake Superior. The park is mostly used during the winter for snowmobiling and cross country skiing. During summer, a small number of bare bathers can be found playing in the small waterfalls and sunbathing on the rocks. The crowd is mostly gay men. As far as we know, authorities do not interfere with the nudity custom here, but to be on the safe side we recommend discretion.

Be advised that we do not have enough information to provide very precise hiking directions from the two parking areas, so you will probably have to explore a little to find the naked area. Please let us know if you can provide more specific hiking directions. As best we can tell, the nude area is a little upstream from Lester Falls, a 30-feet-tall waterfall that is the biggest of the park's falls.
