Mazo Beach—a large sandbar on the Wisconsin River that is part of the Mazomanie State Wildlife Area—is the premier nude beach of the Midwest. Much loved by Madison residents, Mazo draws it share of visitors from Milwaukee and Chicago as well. Often touted as a "legal" nude beach, Mazo's nudity custom has flourished in the absence of an applicable state or local anti-nudity law. Mazo draws several hundred people on warm days, with upwards of 500 visitors on peak days. The beach has a very social atmosphere—swimming, wading, volleyball, canoeing and cookouts are common—and draws a more diverse mix of visitors than do most nude beaches. Most everyone goes nude.

The beach is open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. There are no facilities or services (except for poorly maintained portable toilets), so bring everything you need with you (including insect repellent) and plan to pack out your trash. Glass containers are prohibited.
