San Gregorio Beach (not to be confused with San Gregorio State Beach immediately to the south) claims to be California's oldest nude beach. The beach is private property which has been operated as a public nude beach since 1967.

As you enter the parking lot, someone will collect a small fee (about $5 per car) and tell you a few basic beach rules. The path from the parking lot lands in the central part of the beach, which extends about a mile in either direction. The area south of the entry point is attended mostly by straight couples, while the area to the north tends to be mostly gay.

The beach is so large that it never feels crowded, even on peak summer weekends when 200 or so people show up. There are many driftwood structures along the beach which can be used as shields from the wind. There are portable toilets in the parking lot, but no running water or other services are available. Cameras are prohibited. The water is generally too cold for swimming.
